Case Study Agile Incubator

Incubation accelerates know-how transfer

The utilization of existing knowledge and experience creates a new business area and at the same time strengthens the competitive position.

An IT service provider with 150 employees has been developing agile software for various international corporations for many years. This has resulted in a wealth of knowledge and experience. A solution was now sought to utilize this treasure commercially. To this end, a repeatable structure was to be created that could be transferred into an independent business process.

In a project, a structure should be designed and developed that ensures the transfer of knowledge and experience to customers in a permanently repeatable manner.

An incubator for agile working – an agile incubator – was designed, structured and built from the multitude of possibilities. This provides both the spatial infrastructure and the structure for agile working with tools and cloud applications. In addition, various new roles such as agile developer, scrum master, product owner and agile manager are trained and coached.

In order to implement agile working directly in their business, teams and departments stay in the agile incubator for 6 to 8 weeks at a time. They work on their own products. They are supported and guided by experienced employees of the IT service provider. New roles such as agile developer, scrum master, product owner and agile manager are trained and coached in training sessions.

At the end of their time in the agile incubator, the teams and departments return to their company. They take their established and tested working environment with tools and cloud applications with them. They are coached and supervised by employees of the IT service provider at regular intervals.

With a one-off investment of €65,000, the IT service provider established a new business segment (additional turnover of €250,000 in the first year, ROI = 285 %), utilized its knowledge and experience and thus achieved a unique selling point in the highly competitive software development market.
